 JIM DUNN   OAM   1946 - 2013
A country boy born on a dairy farm at Bull Creek he spent his life serving the equestrian community. On his "once in a lifetime" favourite horse, the grey A-Grade showjumper Island Boy, he successfully competed around all the Royal Shows & World Cup Circuits. Island Boy was originally purchased from Hindmarsh Island as a 3 year old for Jim's mother to hunt but soon became Jim’s mount after showing a huge natural jump.
An accomplished showjumper, course builder, coach, administrator & judge Jim was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2004 for Services to Equestrian Sport in Australia and at Olympic Level. In 1981 Jim was elected Chairman of the Equestrian Federation of Australia Eventing Committee, a position he only recently relinquished & continued to stand in a lesser position. His love of all things equine led him to travel the world as chef d'equipe to the Australian Eventing Team at the World Equestrian Games & judge to many more international events.
Remarkably, for such a well-known & highly respected figure in the International & Australian equine world Jim worked tirelessly for Strathalbyn Show Jumping Club, he had recently been re-elected as President & willingly kept this important position. Jim had been on this committee for 50 years and many as President, which is a huge achievement in itself.
Jim’s proudest moment of his career was to lead the Australian Eventing Team in to collect their Gold Medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
He was a very modest man & few would know of his achievements.
Jim will be sadly missed by us all.
